About Me

I’ve always hated this part of any blog or social media site.  How do you define yourself in a paragraph or two?

I’m an unofficial therapist to many, aspiring photographer, and writer in mommy’s clothing. And by that I mean sweatpants.  Sometimes I blog about what inspires me.

Despite my love for being behind the camera, I am fairly certain every time I stand in front of one, a little piece of me dies inside.

I was the Rant Columnist for Sloane magazine, so be prepared for some ranting here on the blog. Every Wednesday, I talk about what’s on TV and whether or not it may be worth your time.

Yes, I know, I’m a giver.

The rest of the week I blog to entertain and educate people even if it’s just myself.

If you like to get involved in what you read, check out my interactive series, Tell Me a Story.

Most importantly, I blog because I love to write and it’s cheaper than therapy.

Questions? Comments? A sudden desire to fill the role of wealthy benefactor in my life? Email me or find me on Twitter.

    • Thanks! I feel so awkward about this page. Like being in an interview where someone says, “Tell me about yourself.”

How do you choose what to share? :)

  1. Hey, a word from the land o’brand. Don’t think of this page as a bragging megaphone; think of it more like “why you as a reader should read Amber’s musings.” I have read a number of your posts (lurking!) and you have great info. Really liked what you had to say about Google+. But, I had to work harder than necessary to figure out why to spend my time here. You’re not bloviating when you tell me that you have written Xnumber of blog posts, or consider yourself a social media community builder, or whatever. You’re helping define yourself which is a help to me, your faithful returnee. Does that help make you feel less squeamish about this part of the blog task? Hope so.

    • Hi there! Thanks for the input. When I began blogging, I had no intentions of using it for branding purposes. In fact, I didn’t promote the blog anywhere. I mostly just wrote it for me and a small handful of friends.

As you can see, it’s become much more than that over the past few months, so I have been thinking about updating this page to say something more. I’m sure I’ll keep my “voice” there, since I think that is what I want people to come back for more than all else.

Thanks for being a lurker – but thanks even more for voicing your opinion. :)

      • Amber, would it be helpful to have a free makeover of your About page? I have been writing a blog post on the value of using personality and quirkiness in blogging and I need a good example to demo my points. I wouldn’t trash you (far from it, as I really like your blog) but I would talk about how you can do more to help readers gets a sense for who the interesting Amber is. I think people learn better from “real” examples. I’d have to interview you by phone. I would post the make-over on the She Writes blog and then link to it to my Two Pens blog. You’re welcome to respond by email at cynthia@twopens.com if you’d rather. I’m in Seattle, FYI.
